Spent 3 weeks going to him. From day one I felt rushed in to new and expensive, out of pocket things. Near the end of the third week, he wanted me to come in for some kind of in socket plastic ring for my eye. The procedure would cost me over $250, and I was expected to not move my eye once the thing was in. A completely absurd concept. SURGEON OR SALESMAN?????? I first met with Dr.Bowden on or about Nov 10,2017. The reason for the initial meeting was a consultation about a cataract in my left eye. I went to his facility due to the advanced equipment there. After the consultation, Dr. Bowden informed me that I needed cataract surgery and needed it soon. He highly suggested the expensive lens that I would have to partially pay for due to my work and outside activities to eliminate the wear of glasses. Every visit requires a wait long enough that you need to bring a couple of snack s. The staff is friendly, several times they were scolded for presentation of information in front of me. I found this to be embarrassing. There is a strong emphasis on dry eye treatment which is costly and not covered by most insurance. The prescription drops are incredibly expensive. Issues are being monitored and concerns poo pooed. Dr. Bowden is very knowledgeable, but sometimes leaves you wondering what the bottom line is.
While I think Dr. Bowden is an excellent doctor. He and his staff are always trying to sale you something. After always waiting 4 hours in his office and being constantly badgered by everyone you come in contact with tell you about procedures I need to have for my dry eyes not covered by my insurance and all his products he is pushing on me. The stress of it all is unbearable. Plus all the prescriptions he writes are always the most expensive or not covered by insurance. I am afraid I am just another dollar sign to them.
We have been to see Dr. Bowden or members of his team such as Dr. Lima on MANY, MANY occasions over the past 2.5 years. At times, we have visited the office as often as twice per week. Dr. Bowden himself answers all of our questions and seems fairly attentive when in the room with us. He also seems very knowledgeable and adept at resolving multiple issues concerning any part of the eye. Had Lasik eye surgery done by Dr. Bowden and all seemed to go well until after the surgery. My follow up appointment took almost 3 hrs of wait time and me complaining about the wait before i was shuttled into a room and waited another 25 minutes more to be seen.I was not happy and my eyes were not doing well at all. Dr. Bowden while he does have a lot of knowledge regarded dry eyes was unprofessional and yelled at me after taking me for 5 thousand dollars of dry eye procedures not covered by any insurance that did not help or improve my dry eye disease at all. I had probing and lipoflow and no improvement whatsoever, followed all other recommended tx i.e. Restasis, steroid drops and antibiotics, lid scrubs, hot compresses etcThe guy at the front desk who checks you out and takes your money had no multi tasking skills. Dr. Bowden is supposed to be the best of the best. However, I question the value he puts on his patients when he routinely makes them wait at least 4 hours each and every appointment. His staff schedules appointmets every 15 minutes. My last visit was scheduled for 4:45. At that time, he had yet to see his 1:00 patient. The staff tries to pretend these instances of waitng are exceptions due to emergencies or other unexpected events. This is NOT the case it is common practice.
