We were inundated with refi offers to the tune of about a dozen a day. The reason we went with Dan Smith is Dan Smith. (OK, 90 percent Dan Smith. The other 10 percent was the name Mutual of Omaha.) Dan has that rare mix of qualities which is first and foremost totally professional, while at the same time warm and personable. We had questions, he had answers. When we came unglued, he stayed calm. When we got tired and cranky, he was patient and friendly. We wish he lived nextdoor.
