BEWARE of Rent Bait & Switch. I rented 3 units naively thinking they would value my business. After 3 months they raised my rent over 80% which they said was due to operating expense increases. I have worked in commercial real estate and know for a fact that this is absolutely false and am very disappointed with ESS for doing this.

They call it Extra Space because they will perpetually charge you extra for the space you rent from them. They have continuously raised the rent exponentially after I have had multiple discussions that my mother is legally disabled and on a fixed income. This seemingly means nothing to them other than a perfect customer to take advantage of. They give her notice, but it's never enough time for me to help her find somewhere new and be able to move out before the charge hits. I was left speechless when ExtraSpace increased my rent by 65% ...from $135 to $215... after only having storage for 4-5 months. It should be illegal to increase storage rent that much, only 10 - 20% MAX should be allowed per year price increase, or a cut off of some sort. Basically they have you by the balls knowing how much work it takes to move into a new storage unit, so it's tough not to pay the upgrade fee until you find the time to move into another unit. I was robbed in February at Extra Space Storage 6384 South Cottonwood Street in Murray. Two weeks before getting robbed I came to get my suitcase for a trip and noticed that someone had knocked out the large bolt on the bottom of the rolling door. The bolt holds an L-bracket in place so the door doesn't roll up on itself. I told management about it and was very alarmed! I think someone sent in a tiny camera to check out what I had. They false advertise a price online and get you to sign a contract thinking its a good deal however after three month they will raise the price to nearly double then offer you a higher price then what they offer you in the first place. Then they claim its the market that drive the price up and happy to send you a copy of the hidden fees lease agreement that they never mentioned. It a predatory market practice thriving in Red states like Utah. Good luck!

Mice poop & urine everywhere on my furniture. There was an infestation of mice inside of the unit I was renting, and it literally ruined all my furniture. This tore into some items and thru plastic bags to get to the furniture. I feel bad for everyone who is currently renting a unit from this place because chances are there are tons of mice in those units too. We rented a heated and air conditioned unit for a year. Went to get our stuff. Everything covered in mice poop. All of our furniture etc. They will do nothing without "extra insurance". He said they set mice traps outside. Sorry. We can't guarantee they won't get in! Rip off! Go elsewhere. This was worst storage experience and we have rented over 9x!

I currently have a storage unit at the Extra Space Storage (6384 S Cottonwood St, Murray, UT 84107) property. Yesterday I went to move out of my storage unit and the digital access lock malfunctioned and I could not get in. I called customer service and they said the digital access lock was going through a software update, and it could be anywhere from 5 minutes to 2 hours for it to complete. Meanwhile, all the digital access locks on the other storage units around mine were lighting up no problem. I was incredibly frustrate... read more

CAUTION: TOTAL BATE AND SWITCH. Most obvious case of bait and switch I've ever seen. Got to the facility with fully loaded truck and the unit I had reserved was no longer available and I got forced into a similar size unit at 150% the price! I have an e-mail confirmation that says: "Thank you for your RESERVATION", "your unit has been reserved", "Move in date is", "Appt conf # is". Their response when I got there was no, that only reserved the price IF THAT SIZE UNIT WAS STILL AVAILABLE. No where does it tell you that.... read more
