Last minute, late night reservation with work team - party of 5 - Thurs. eve. Place busy - we were likely the last dining party. As we sat down, the music cranked up & the bar scene - with dancing allowed we saw - picked up. Fun, vibrant place even if it made conversations with foreign work team a little difficult to hear!!! We try to dine at the Metro Cafe whenever we visit the Freehold, NJ area, because we're always pleased with their eclectic menu and lively atmosphere. We've probably dined there about 4 times over the past 5 years and have never been disappointed! The service can be slow, but the great thing is we never feel rushed.
Metropolitan Cafe is always a great place to dine. The menu is varied and the specials are sure to please. The bread basket includes humus and a sweetened butter very nice before an appetizer. Love the calamari and a Shrimp! Usually have sushi as a main and someone in my group will have a steak. Recently enjoyed the miso cod. It was amazing!
Consistently good, Metropolitan Cafe remains a go to spot. Rivals the pricier Redbank establishments.
This place us really a great local find.
I met 2 friends for lunch last week for lunch during a recent heat wave-it was 100 degrees plus outside. I had a reservation and arrived early, and even though it was hot outside I wanted to wait outside for my friends who were not familiar with Freehold so that I could greet them as they approached the restaurant. Food was good but drinks were grossly overpriced. $10 but it wasn't that good, and also...you're not in Manhattan... the $15 heirloom and mozzarella appetizer is also overpriced considering it had 1 mini heirloom tomato.
Had a wonderful meal and excellent wine. Great service and okay atmosphere.
