This was my third year coming for Christmas Eve. Me, my husband, and brother were placed in the back of the restaurant again. We sat at the 6:30 seating and it wasn't event crowded so I can see where the problem lays. Also, it was pricey $360 dollars for 3 people. I would not come back here for the holidays ever again.
Our reservation was the evening of long island's worst snowstorm. Needless to say the Tavern was almost empty. Due to the lack of patrons, I would have thought the service would have been amazing. I was so wrong. It took a long time to receive our cocktails. The drinks were excellent. After ordering our appetizers and entrees the wait time was ridiculous. One of our friends is a vegetarian, there was no vegetarian choice on the menu. The waiter said the chef would be happy to make up a plate. However when it arrived it was l... read more
Very crowded brunch buffet, but it was the holidays. Charged $7.00 when I requested a non -Lipton brand tea bag- same water.
Although we have eaten at Mirabelle many times, our visit during Restaurant Week in their new facility at the Three Village Inn was a disappointment. The "lamb shank" from the special menu was not a "shank" at all but a few thin pieces of lamb in a bowl of noodles that was not worth $25 even with an appetizer and a dessert. Our other dish was shrimp, mussels and scallops for an additional $5. The seafood was cooked properly but the sauce, a specialty of Mirabelle, was quite ordinary. The staff in the Tavern seemed rushed, di... read more
Inattentive waitstaff made for a frustrating evening. How does one walk past a table 4 times with cleared plates, make eye contact with said plates, and still not take them from the table? How do you drop off coffee with no spoon? Why would one give a roll of the eyes from ordering french-press coffee at a french restaurant? Because it's restuarant week I can't have french-press? Does it take too much time?(it was a great cup of coffee)The shrimp fricassee was bland. Perfectly cooked scallops with slightly overcooked shrimp,... read more
Overall, the Tavern is warm and inviting, if a bit loud near the bar. We found the wait staff friendly and helpful. We understand that the aim is for casual bistro fare. Given that criterion, the execution is still disappointing and the combinations within some dishes are bizarre. Examples of puzzling lapses were spectacularly limp french fries and a bitter tapenade. Mirabelle may have a problem with wine storage. Labels and years we are familiar with tasted like they had been poorly stored, perhaps "cooked".
Food was not what you would expect. We ordered a hangar steak and was served a sirloin. I guess they think we don't know the difference. It was dry and bland also. Bar was nice would go back for a drink and maybe try something else on the menu.
Our dining experience was only fair because the prix-fixe menu offered only two entrees--salmon and a sliced steak--rather pedestrian and somewhat disappointing for the $32 price. This was the opinion of all four of us at the table.
Most dishes contained bacon. The menu is difficult for vegetarians. The place was extremely noisy; the situation was no helped by the performance of live country music.
