Great alternative to paying your debt down quickly. However, be cautioned with debts settled less than the original balance, the IRS requires lenders to issue a 1099-C tax form to the borrower to show the amount of debt not paid. The ***then requires the borrower to report that amount on a tax return as income. This was not disclosed or explained to me initially prior to enrolling in the program. Some exclusions apply. Make sure your tax preparer understands the rules related to debt settlements vs insolvency.
I’ve been with them for a year now. At the beginning of the process I was stressed out due to my debt and skeptical about the process. They took the time to explain everything to me. They were there to speak to my creditors for me. I still have a long way to go to clear up my credit but I’m confident that National Debt Relief services will be by my side.
