Polaris G52 Back-up Valve Assembly. This is a factory original Polaris replacement back up valve. It has a timer mechanism inside that diverts water out of a jet every 5-10 minutes. This jet acts as a back up, pulling the cleaner out from the pool floor or wall. There is an arrow on one side of the hose barb that should face towards the cleaner. G 52 My backup valves last about two seasons at most. Not sure what causes them to fail. I ran my Polaris without it to finish out the season, and he only got stuck twice, and seemed to run faster. Was not able to get unit open as it seemed to be welded shut after being in the water for so long. Did not try the tapping trick to loosen the threads so case will open.
