Older ribbons do not work in this machine. Great little machine. Unfortunately, the older ribbons WON'T work even though they are dimensionally the same. They made them different citing "environmental" concerns as the ink is a different formulation. Really? Brother is concerned about the minute amount of ink in these cartridges? It's like constantly changing charging ports on cell phones. They force you buy all new crap just to make more money. Three stars for being a typical corporate entity.
Five Stars Love it!
A super trooper. No complaints. Does a lot, cost little (black friday sale) uses standard brother cartridges that can be bought at Costco or Sams. And it does serif fonts, when you want that old timey look.

Nice labels Very useful for the labeling of varieties of flowers grown using the waterproof tape. Easy to use.
Surprised to read about battery life I have a handheld Brother label maker (have had it for close to 8+ years) I didn't use it much for quite a while then decided to start organizing my craft room. I was so surprised to read about the battery problem with this desk model because I can only remember replacing batteries a couple of times ever! I know it had to be at least a year or more since the last use and when i got it out here a few weeks ago it worked like a charm. I was thinking about buying this desk model for more use... read more

Good machine Good little printer for the price. Label refills are cheap if you shop around on Amazon.
Excellent and very useful prpoduct If you don't already have one of these, you are missing a great tool. I use these labels for all seasonal storage for everything.
