Took our dogs to get their check ups. Doctors were decent but the bill was about twice the amount first told to us. Paid the bill but won’t be returning as we didn’t appreciate the surprised billing. Other than that decent experience.

Business response:

Thank you for providing your feedback and letting us know about this issue. We set a high standard for ourselves and are truly sorry to hear that we did not meet your expectations. I would love to hear more about the situation in order to ensure this does not happen again. Please call us at (913)782-0173 and ask for Marc. Thank you, Southside Pet Hospital

I lost my dog due to a hit and run & witnessed the loss of my dog and instead of Southside having sympathy and compassion they completely acted like I was a bother bringing my sweet Mercedes to them. They kept informing me to call the doctor like she was alive but she said she was already gone when we arrived. So I was confused on why I needed to talk to the doctor they were giving me false hopes. This JUST happened to so I am crying uncontrollably and was showed no compassion. I just said I wanted to go home so my husband c... read more

The first time we went to Southside they opened up a can of wet food to use as a treat for our dog because she has food allergies... they charged us for that food, even though it wasn’t our idea nor did we want it. They are not helpful when it comes to needing to get in right away for emergency situations and are unwilling to make exceptions for their patients. Our cat is throwing up and they are open until 4 today (1:00 when I called) and cannot squeeze our cat in to even take his temperature. We will be finding a new vet w... read more

Business response:

Hi Kathleen. I’m sorry to hear that you didn’t have a good experience with us. It sounds like there may have been a miscommunication with regard to the food. Our manager will correct this first thing Monday. We do our very best to see patients same day, but if our doctor is already with other emergent cases, sometimes pets have to be referred to the local specialty hospital. We would love the chance to make things right and hate that you view us as not having big hearts. Thank you for taking the time to provide us with... read more

We went today and it was horrible. The vet (Dr. McDermott) was rude and threatened to call animal control on my dog because he was behind on his rabies vaccine (which is why we were there). Her technician failed to get a temp or heartbeat from him. They needed to look at his paws and could not do so properly. They muzzled him because of his side and their lack of expertise. When I asked for someone else, the vet got offended and was yelling at me. I asked for my bill and they wouldn’t give me one. The vet informed me “that w... read more

I have taken my dogs here for years but it is not the same and after my experience today, we are leaving. As I was waiting in lobby, the customer before me stormed out of their room and left. The receptionist, the tech, and a vet all were talking about him in front of me in the lobby - about how he was mad that he had to pay for something before even seeing the vet. Unprofessional. I should have left then. I got into room with my dog to have them check her ears for infection. Before the vet had even come in room or looke... read more

I stop in and get my Heart worm for my dogs every month and have for years. Once I started using the clinic that the City of Olathe offers at a great price, things have not been the same. I still have to use the vet for the heart worm test and buy their heart worm meds from the vet. They are healthy and don't need regular visits to the vet. I do use Vanessa the groomer and all 3 of us my self and 2 dogs really like her. My point is this: I went in today only to be told I cant buy my pets heart worm anymore because they have ... read more

Business response:

Hi Cindy! I'm so sorry you feel that way. Unfortunately, we do have to do an exam AND a heartworm test on your pet to prescribe medication. This exam has to be done within a year and is required by law. Without this exam, we do not not have an established relationship with your pets and our doctors could lose their licenses. Please feel free to call us if you have any other questions.

I used to love this vet's office and recommended them to anyone that needed a vet. Unfortunately, they have now gone "corporate" and changed vets which has resulted in a major decline in their quality. I took my dog in for an eye infection. First we were kept waiting for 40 mins despite having an appointment. Then the new vet proceeded to perform a tear production test, gram stain, and fluoroscopy test before giving me the drops I already knew my dog needed. The bill came to nearly $200. I have been treated without insurance... read more

Business response:

Hi Jamie. We are sorry that you are disappointed with your visit and had a long wait. We always strive to be on time but occasionally emergencies and unexpected delays occur. While different veterinarians treat conditions differently, Dr. Gray and our other doctors strive to offer top medical care. Dr. Gray has been at Southside since 1979 and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience. Please let us know if you would like to chat with us more about Ziggy's visit. We want to make sure you are happy and he is healthy!
