I would not recommend this facility. I was misdiagnosed, and my care was mishandled, with significant treatment decisions made without clear explanation or informed collaboration — either with me or with my established at-home care team, including my long-term therapist, primary care provider, and my husband. My Experience at The Refuge I would strongly caution anyone considering The Refuge. I went in willing to do the work and followed all the rules, but what I experienced was manipulative, dismissive, and in my opinion unsafe. • Broken promises. I was told Friday that I would be transferred to the trauma side as soon as a cabin was available. I complied all weekend, only to be told Monday that they would not move me because my weight “hadn’t improved enough.” They dangled that transfer to keep me there. • Withholding contact... read more
