I was quite disappointed in my experience at Bacchus. Aside from a great ambiance and good service the food was just average if not below average. This would probably have been ok had the prices not been so sky high. I'm not opposed to a nice place like Flemmings or Capitol Grill but the NY Strip I had was luke warm at best and had little to no flavor aside from the sauce it was completely soaked in. My husband and I went on a Saturday night, Valentine's Day weekend. The service at the bar was very slow. People were waiting at least 8-10 minutes just to get a drink. It almost felt like the staff were deliberately ignoring customers. However, the cocktails were very delicious. At dinner, I don't know if they were having an off night or if they were short staffed, but our service was horrible. I wish we kept a tally of the amount of apologies we got all evening. We arrived 1/2 hour earlier than our reservation but checked in at the front desk and told them we would be in the bar. While watching people come in and sit around us and then get called for their table, after 45 minutes, we went up to the front desk and asked when we were going to be seated. They had gone over our name and sat many other people. They appologized and 5 minutes later we were seated.
My wife and I had our Valentine's Day meal at the restaurant. While the waiter was most pleasant, the food was only average. My filet was tough and a bit overdone. My wife's shortribs were unremarkable. When I ordered a second glass of wine, the wrong variety was delivered and the waiter seemed shocked that I noticed. I frankly expected much better.
The restaurant was quite lovely and the service was good. The portion sizes were very disappointing and I would have to rate the food quality as average with nothing to write home about.
Will be an excellent place to recommend for a very special occasion once smoking is eliminated from the bar area. One patron at the bar smoking and it drifted into dining room. When I spend $300 to $400 for a dining experience this is unacceptable. Wisconsin goes smoke free July 2010, but until then exposure to second hand smoke is on the menu.
The "Big Three" of Food, Service and Atmosphere were all A+ at Bacchus. We have a wonderful time, and we will definitely go back, soon!
The dining experience could have been better. The food was good and price wasn't an issue. However, the service could have been better. Our waitress misrepresented their specials and over promised courses. Of course, this resulted in a number of questions and the waitress dismissing it as our misunderstanding ... not her's. Also, they tried to over charge by adding a 2nd $98 bottle of wine on our bill, and looked surprised when we caught the mistake. I would expect much better service at a restaurant of this type of caliber.
My husband & I were celebrating a special wedding anniversary which was noted upon reservation. We asked for a table with a view & did not get one. Started off ordering a bottle of wine and scallop appetizer...server later came back and said they are in the basement looking for that wine. Then she said they found it but that it was warm...she did not offer us another wine but said she would chill it for us.
