My only honest positive point here is that they are a vet if you need a vet immediately. HOWEVER, aside from the obvious PARKING CHALLENGES, this place is so overpriced and my main aggravation comes from the fact that if my pet is actually sick, the vet has not been able to diagnose it, yet I have a HUGE BILL. But if you need vaccines or typical routine check ups, fine. So...it's a-ok. Nice staff too.
I'm giving BBV one star because I don't have the option of giving zero. Their vets care about one thing only: making as much money as possible. Their prices are RIDICULOUSLY expensive, even by Newbury street standards. I might be OK with that if they provided the best possible care, but they don't--they're incompetent. Let me give you some examples: 1.) I took my dog in because he had broken a nail on a walk and I wanted to make sure it wasn't more serious than that. The vet's first reaction: take an x-ray! Back Bay vet will do a fine job of caring for you pet, but they'll do an even better job of emptying your pocket book. If you're okay with spending over $900 to get your pet neutered, then by all means - check them out! I brought my Chihuahua in for a full exam. He was new to our family so I wanted all the tests run. Back Bay has no qualms about giving you all the bells and whistles - you're just going to pay out the nose for it. $140 bill later he was given a clean bill of health. Go to this place only if you like the idea of your vet caring more about making money than the welfare of you pet. THe vets here goes on and on in medical terms, talking about pathogens and GI tract.. etc... recommending expensive treatments and under medicating to make you come back for more visits. (=more $$$) Day 1- Brought my puppy there to get treated for Kennel cough, was told she did not need medication for that, but vet recommended fecal examination. Paid $102 for consultation.. I have have taken my dog here twice and the staff is nice, but it is very expensive. A big problem occured when I needed a Rx for my dog. Initially, I had the office fill the prescription and was charged $35 for 21 pills. My dog is going to be on the medicine indefinitely, so I looked online to see if I could find the same medicine online and subsequently placed an order ($19 for 60 pills). The only thing about this place is convenience BUT totally not worth it. I brought in my dog to get ONE simple shot and when the bill arrived, they took the liberty of adding additional services without my permission or consultation. Not to mention the unorganized records which I had to repeat myself several times about a service my pet had months ago only to find out that they misplaced or couldn't find the records.
