My original question was about changing to a 15 year fixed mortgage and if that was beneficial to us. He didn't just try to sell us his product but actually took the time to see what would be best in our situation. In our case the 15 year fixed was not the best answer but refinancing our current mortgage was. It allowed us to pay off more consumer debt up front. We will now be out of debt faster, making the same payments, than if we wouldn't have refinanced.
