Yes it sleeps, good saves electricity I was so hesitant to purchase this due to so many bad reviews. I actually removed it from my wish list and Amazon cart. Great Printer I have used one of these printers at work for about 6 years. Never a minutes problem and have printed thousands of copies. I decided to do away with the ink jet printer at home and go with a laser. I connected wireless for laptop and iPhone as well. If this one proves to be as good or half as good as the one I use at work I will be happy.
