I received my undergraduate degree from UTD and there were a lot of things about the university that appealed to me. The only reason I chose to go elsewhere for my masters was because of the lack of applicable graduate degrees. UTD began as graduate research facility, only expanding into undergraduate studies in the mid-1970s, and is still primarily research-based. It's academically-focused MUCH more than socially-focused. I loved that I could park (semi-close with my gold parking pass) by my building, walk in to class and... read more
Ive been here at UTD for a few semesters now. My experience with almost all the professor has been awesome except for one research prof who obviously hated teaching a class I took. I'm still regretting taking that class. Overall, most professors I've had are professional, caring and helpful. Which is one one the only things I love about this school. Most of the students here are also very serious about school. The cafeteria could use more variety and revamp. Sometimes it gets so crowded. Parking is also terrible but I... read more
I love UTD. Of course, it has some of the problems that other colleges have...like parking, lack of some graduate classes I want during certain semesters, and the food at the Pub isn't amazing...but I love my program and most professors! I love that we can drink at the Pub (two beer max of course), but it is a great way to wind down after class. I love that my program's building is close to the exit, so I never have to really maneuver through the whole campus, just one section. I love the graduate EMAC program here. I have l... read more
Okay so I am a senior in high school who is thinking of going to UTD I want to major in criminology which is not the same thing as criminal justice as some people might think. I haven't found one State University that has that major that is close to the d/fw area until I found UTD. I've been on the website for about 24 hours now. I recently found it. Anyway I really want to go there because it has greek life, but its not to the point where it's like TCU, and I am used to not having football games nor any sport because my hig... read more
Yeah, I'm a student. I guess that's why I'm a fan. Parking is a b**ch though. I don't know what all the recent changes encompass since I only go to one building once a week, but the scenery is delightful.
I transferred from SMU to UTD in 2001, and attended UTD until 2004. The academics on the whole are good but when I was there some teachers were primarily researchers "forced" to teach lower level courses and made them difficult. The CS program at the time was better than SMU which is why I transferred. However, UTD was picky about what credits they would accept from SMU. They also counted math courses from other colleges are "inferior". By that I mean Calculus I from SMU counted as Pre-Calc at UTD. My Calculus 2 and 3 ... read more
First, this is a commuter school. No football games on Saturday afternoon. No roaming groups of drunken freshmen. On-campus housing exists, as do fraternities and sororities. (And this might be the sort of school where joining one is a good and positive thing and not obnoxious.) More traditional freshman dorm housing with a dining hall is on the way. The majority of students seem to be DFW kids who did a year or two at community college or other universities. People do come here as freshmen, many for the strong engine... read more
I started at UTD this summer after a long 3 year break, I left Texas State San Marcos, one of the biggest party schools around, to UTD the least party school around. I am ok with it. I like my professors and the serious envirnoment during classes, everyone seems to take things seriously. The one drawback is just how kinda confusing the rooms are setup within the buildings. I see no system to the numerical confusion that is going on with all of the room 3.2516 stuff, ugh. Seems a lil expensive but oh well. I hope I will enjo... read more
I've just completed my Master's degree from UTD and don't feel like leaving this place. I've spent two years here and loved every bit of it. It's a medium sized university, which obviously has its plus points. Class strength is small and you get a lot more opportunities to interact with the professors. The faculty is very helpful. Graduate school is competitive, especially Engineering & Computer Science School. You might get lucky and get university funding though there's a lot of competition for it. The fees have gone up... read more
