Business response:
We feel that there has been some confusion with companies, as our technician was hired by [Member name removed] in 2012 after his chimney was repaired by another company. This was after having a chimney fire and that was why his insurance company covered this work. Our findings showed the replacement tile liner that was installed was offset by the smoke chamber where there was also missing mortar that had disintegrated after the repair work that was previously done. We have picture documentation that was taken at the time we... read more
Tried to make us think we needed more work than was needed. Had it checked by others that showed it was not needed.
Business response:
After reviewing the safety inspection report our CSIA certified technician gave Ms. [member name removed], we are hoping she takes the time to read it through again to see the evidence of our findings and to review the close circuit camera pictures she had received with the report given, explaining all the flaws in her two fireplace flue liners. Our company feels investing in such equipment detects issues that the eye could miss with shading or offsets and can prove invaluable. The brickwork on the chimney itself was actuall... read more
The company was not willing to offer us the services we wanted on our chimney. They insisted on us needing to buy extra services. We went with a different company.
Business response:
We feel that there was a slight communication problem with interpreting an educated recommendation to "insisting" on buying extra services. We should have done a better job of educating our customer during the phone conversation. We offered not only a repair estimate, but an inspection of the internal flue liners of the fireplaces, which is the area of biggest safety concern. Also, as a long standing company that offers quality chimney repairs, we mention that we do not believe in doing tuck pointing for deteriorated brickwo... read more
Homeowner beware. They told me my chimney was unsafe and needed to be destroyed. They said I had had a fire, but I did not. They did not do a good job. I paid $250 to have the chimney cleaned, but it was not cleaned properly. The owner was supposed to call me and he never did.

Update: Yes, the company did call and refunded half of my money because the technician did not properly clean the Kodiak stove. Ash/creosote residue was left on top of the baffle and no attempt was made to clean the cap.

Imm... read more
Business response:
The history behind our service with [member name removed]'s fireplace goes back 30 years when Jack Pixley installed a new flue liner after a chimney fire (the was last time our company serviced this fireplace). The homeowner has an old Kodiak Insert with a partial liner that should transition up through her flue liner. Also, old notes on the repair proposal years ago stated that we do not have control over their burning habits. Our CSIA certified technician with 20 years of experience inspected and cleaned this fireplace. He... read more
Beware! I wanted an estimate of the exterior brick work on my 25 year
old chimney. The rep from this company insisted on looking in the
chimney with a camera which showed mortar joints loose in my wood
burning chimney liner. He said the chimney is unsafe to use and the
liner needed to be replaced, preferably with a stainless steel insert. I
have not received the estimate, but can only imagine what that would
cost! His assistant did go up with a ladder and looked at the
brick p... read more
I write this review with the caveat that as it was several years ago that they had come out, I cannot remember all of the specific details of my interatction with them but the information contained details my general recollecation of what occurred. As a new member of Angieslist I feel compelled to detail my extremely negative experience. After purchasing a 30 year old home through foreclosure we had Jack Pixley out to inspect the 3 chimneys. One of the fireplaces had obviously never even had a fire in it. During my initial co... read more
Business response:
We went out to the homeowners home four years ago to clean and inspect all three of his fireplaces at his newly purchased home. As we do with all sales of home, we cleaned and inspected the chimneys to ensure that they could function as intended, remove any debris, or possible animal nesting and feces. We always run a camera so that we can see what the condition of the flue system is to ensure that the fireplace can contain the by-products of combustion (smoke and soot) and is not a fire hazard. We take still photos of all a... read more
Years ago I used this company to clean our chimney and they were just fine. However, I called today to have a cleaning on a different chimney at another house and the cleaning and inspection was quoted at $299 which includes a video inspection. They do not offer just a cleaning for less money; they require an inspection. I made an appointment with another company on Angie's List for $175!
Business response:
We appreciate that the customer found a credible company through Angie's List at a lower price. Our company chooses to do a full clean and inspection to insure that you as a homeowner are using a fireplace that is functioning as intended and is not a fire hazard. By using a camera we are able to see the interior of the flue liner were there are many hidden hazards! We feel that it is more important to guarantee the homeowner a functioning fireplace that is free of any unknown hazards, rather than assume that everything is sa... read more

Company Response: I appreciate that the Member wanted an estimate for free. When our company goes out to assess a chimney and it's repair needs, we do not just do a visual inspection, give our opinion and an estimate and walk away. We do extensive work to look at not just the exterior of the chimney, but the internal workings of the chimney as well. We want to make sure that the chimney is operating as it was intended. If there are cracked tiles we address that issue as well. We also look at the firebox and smoke chamber are... read more
I wouldn't recommend using them. They seemed more concerned with charging me fees than doing honest busioness.
