I just wanted to warn others to beware of the Funicular at John Ball Zoo. We got on at 12:15pm on June 14th, 2025. It was our first time riding it. I was told by an employee people took their wagons, so I took my four-seater Wonderfold. There were 4 adults and 3 other children in our car in addition to me and my 2 kids, 2-years-old and 9-years-old. It broke down just before the big hill. Super excited for lantern festival, however there are no accommodations for handicap persons at this facility. They do not even offer handicap parking.
We have a family membership at John Ball that we purchased specifically for the lanterns. There was some miscommunication on behalf of their staff and what I found on the website. When arriving at the zoo, because of the miscommunication we did not have tickets. Rather than trying to work with us and making the situation right, we were turned away without being given any options. Customer service was terrible and we as members were not heard. I will NEVER become a member there again.

make events more organized and less of a money grab. once you buy the ticket they don't care if you enjoy the event or not.
Couldn’t see animals very good , was more places to drink or eat then animals
The animals need so much more room to move around and roam, some of the enclosures/CAGES were so small and sad and ridiculous!! My heart breaks for those poor animals!! We most likely will not be back to this zoo..
Went to the zoo today with my family and was incredibly disappointed. Less than a 1/4 of the people were wearing masks, and no one was practicing social distancing. We ended up leaving early as it was an incredibly stressfully trip. We had several confrontations with no maskers and people continually invading my children's space both indoors and out.
