We have a 5 month German Shepard puppy named Rainey. I knew she would be a handful from the start so we began training the day she arrived home at 8 weeks. I was using all positive training at the beginning and everything was going well for the first few weeks and then she started picking and choosing when to listen to commands and when not to. I was becoming very frustrated and didn’t know what to do. Then I found taming the wild and everything changed. Just by adding consequences and making sure Rainey follows through w... read more
Have taken my dog here for years and did training here. Training was money wasted. Have been frustrated last few times with boarding. Now can’t get anyone to answer or return calls in a timely fashion either. We are now done here.
We've used Taming the Wild for many years with our previous boxer, Henry, and had great success with boarding and daycare. We have a new boxer puppy (6 months), Norman, now and have used them twice for boarding/daycare. The first was just 1 night and 1 day of daycare and everything was great. We just picked him up from his second boarding stay (3 nights + 1 day of daycare) and he STANK really bad of urine. His paws were even yellow! His collar and leash even smell of urine! Almost smelled like a barn animal. We had to drive ... read more
He claims to be a "master trainer" who has trained for decades, so why isn't he certified through CCPDT as a certified professional dog trainer?
Business response:
I am not a member of CCPDT of my choosing. One’s lack of membership in the said organization is not an automatic disqualification of one’s knowledge of dog behavior and the skills necessary to train a dog. Just recently, I put my knowledge and skills as a dog trainer on public display when I provided 179 hours, performed over 365 straight days on Facebook live (February 8, 2020 - February 9, 2021) of free information to help dog owners achieve an incredible life with their dogs. When a member of CCPDT or the organization as ... read more
ProTrain Memphis was one of the best investments I have made. There is something to be said for peace in the home. Before ProTrain (B.P.), Moxie, our German shepherd, was ruling the house and causing hurt feelings and frustration with every step. She was herding my 8 year old son including nipping/biting and jumping on him ALL the time. Nothing I did would help. I scoured the internet and books looking for the answer. I tried everything: treats, distracting with bones/toys, choke collar, knee in the chest, turning my back, s... read more
Kira and Bryan have helped me so much with my 6 month old german shepherd, Dakota. Although Dakota has always been fairly calm for a puppy, I always dreaded walking her for fear of people thinking I had no control over my dog. She was so easily distracted, would shy away from strangers and be all over the place on the leash. Since completing the 2 week OBS program with ProTrain, she has come back a different dog. She will walk just to the left of me, sit right next to me when I come to a stop, and hold a down position on... read more
Since we’ve come a long way since our visit, here’s my experience. In fall of 2018 Bryan told me to rehome my EIGHT MONTH OLD puppy because he was aggressive, dangerous, would seriously hurt someone one day, and he’d never be the kind of dog that I could enjoy outside of my home. He sent us home with a book on dogs attacking and killing people. We did not go back. That’s the kind of training that goes on here. Just came here to warn anyone else and to say that since then we found an actual trainer and my “aggressive” dog hap... read more
Business response:
Any guidance or recommendation I provide regarding the treatment of any dog is based upon owner testimony, the dog’s living conditions, and behavioral tests performed at the time of the evaluation. The dog’s owner always has the choice to either follow my recommendations or seek other options available to them. They also have the opportunity to do either in a professional manner. Unfortunately, the latter is not always elected when my recommendation fails to coincide with the owner's version of reality.
One of my dogs, Lexi, (an older adoptee) was really a pill to take on walks. She reacted to other dogs by barking and lunging and pulling. It was really stressful for me and also embarrassing when friends would pass by with their dogs. I resorted to night walking! I've owned lots of dogs, but not like Lexi. I had Lexi evaluated at Taming the Wild and signed her up for the board and train program. I also learned that I was a reactive owner (my words). Once I knew how to handle her (and myself) walking became a pleasure. I am ... read more
