Had a terrific meal here last night. Definitely exceeded my expectations and definitely not your average Gaslamp "tourist" restaurant. I really liked the decor inside and the food/service was on point. We did one of the cheese jars to start which was great a little sweet and a little savory. Then i had the Coq Au Vin which was also savory and perfectly cooked. My friend had the Scallops which she loved. I'm normally not a dessert person but the budino was crazy good. It says butterscotch but i take it more as caramel style c... read more
My only complaint was the noise level, but most of that was coming from the street on a Saturday night. Nothing the restaurant can control! I had the seafood pasta (special) and it was fantastic. We were a group of eight, and they had no problem accommodating us. This place was recommended by Ashley at Greystone when I told her my family didn't feel like dressing nice for dinner...we were all in shorts. And she was right, it was the perfect pick. Food and atmosphere were still high-end, but we didn't feel out of place at all... read more
Route 29 is an excellent new restaurant in the Gaslamp District. We ate outside and brought our dog. The menu is very creative so there were many choices. We decided to eat small plates so we could try more things. I loved everything I had (Farmer's Salad, Buffalo Tartare and artichoke hearts.) The service was excellent and the manager came by to check on how our meal was. The outside tables are on the street so people watching is always interesting. We will definitely be back.
It's a new restaurant. They have a little work to do on the menu, but the ambiance and the service staff were amazing. Our dinners were good, but not great. However, we will give them another shot because we truly enjoyed our experience even though our main courses were not as yummy as we had hoped. The desert menu needs work, too.
Staff and food was great.
Excellent food with great service in a pleasant environment. Completely unlike the vast majority of restaurants in the Gaslamp, Route 29 brought us a gourmet experience (at a reasonable price too). Just go with your server’s recommendations - everything was really good. The duck pate jar was our table’s favorite. Will definitely be back soon.
Awesome new restaurant. The pork belly is a must get. Duck was cooked perfectly. Great wine selection.
Came in to celebrate a milestone birthday and we were really glad we ate here. Service was excellent; our server really understood the restaurant's menu and food in general. He was efficient without being overbearing. The food was very good and the bar had some interesting cocktails. They have only been open a few weeks but seemed to really have everything in order. Definitely a nice addition to the Gaslamp scene.
First and foremost, Petar was amazing! Probably one of the most outstanding service experiences I’ve ever had. He was knowledgeable and funny and polite! He’s also pursuing his Som license so he was able to steer us into the right wine direction. This place is still under the radar, so go before it blows up! The food, the wine and the service in the middle of the Gaslamp, with a feel like you’re in little Italy!
