We had a negative experience, no doubt. We aren’t picky, but the salad was wet and the leaves were massed together, the dressing just oil and no flavor whatsoever, we couldn’t eat it. I am vegetarian and asked the waiter if the chef could give me the vegetables that were “sides” used for entres, which sounded delicious (crispy cauliflower, carrots, butternut, beets...) the waiter checked with the chef said ‘no problem’. I was served a small portion of steamed zucchini and carrot slices, like out of a bag of Birds Eye frozen ... read more
Food was very disappointing and highly overpriced
Very disappointing first and possibly last visit to Route 29. Want to give the benefit of the doubt because it was Thanksgiving and things were quite busy, but they missed the mark even with that consideration. First off, they were out of several of the wines we requested and we were guided to more expensive options. The bread they served was truly terrible, soft and flavorless. Our table was for 7:30 and by then they were already out of one of the three appetizers on the $45 fixed menu (gnocchi, which was of course the one ... read more
Pork belly was tough, hard to even cut with a knife. Artichokes were too salty, and lamb was mealy and heavy. Restaurant was beautiful though and service was great.
It was advertised as Napa Valley comes to San Diego, didn't even come close. The wine list was so-so, which is surprising for something being advertised as "Napa Valley" like. Some of the food was good, duck pate (a little bland), grilled octopus, gnocchi with ragu. The hangar steak was cooked well, but in kind of a sour sauce. We ordered grilled artichokes to go with it, and they seemed like canned or jarred marinated artichokes that we're put on the grill for a few minutes, very mushy and again, a sour taste. My wife and I... read more
Nice venue, well located. Food was reasonable quality, if nothing to write home about, but the service was lacking. Server was hanging around on top of us despite the restaurant being nearly empty, while pretty transparently pushing us towards the most expensive food and wine on the menu and developing a sudden attitude problem when we didn’t follow their recommendations.
Outdoor seating is small and my reservation for outdoor seating was not honored.
It was a very busy night the night we ate here, and we understood that there would be a delay, but it seemed as no one knew who our server was. We ordered a meat and cheese platter and they sent it to the wrong table, and instead of comping us for the mistake we still had to pay for it and wait another 20 minutes while the people behind us ate a free meat and cheese platter. It was very disorganized and very long waits for not only our food but for our drinks. However our final waitress was lovely.
We arrived and wanted to sit on the patio, but the owner was out there smoking so we moved twice bc I’m pregnant. We still could smell the smoke so we moved inside. The servers and manager were nice and we ordered a salad, drinks and 2 entrees. Turned out that the chef didn’t want to serve the dish I ordered bc the meat that came in didn’t look fresh enough. I can appreciate that except we were told well after we ordered. I picked another dish and when it came out, it was served with a different pasta than stated in the menu... read more
