We were at a concert at Carnegie Hall, which is just across the street, and looking for some late night dining. This restaurant is very convenient and open late. There's a variety of Italian dishes. What we had was very good and pretty reasonably priced. They have a nice wine selection. This is a somewhat tourist-centric area, so I can imagine it being pretty loud inside at certain times and/or crowded, but that was not the case for us as we arrived about 1030 pm on a cold night. Always amazing!
Most likely, owing to its great location across from Carnegie Hall, Trattoria Dell Arte was packed the night we were there with concert goers as well as some large parties. The greeters did an admirable job of seating people in the long line waiting for tables. My husband and I were happily seated in a little nook where we could sit side by side and hear each other, but the line of people in front of our table waiting to be seated and the clusters of wait staff trying to cross that line to get to customers was a bit distract... read more
The ambiance was good and the service staff was friendly, but the food was not as we would have hoped. I ordered spaghetti carbonara with lobster and it was either warmed up or stood under the light for too long as the carbonara cream sauce turned into oil and lobster pieces were dry and even crispy. We also ordered a 3 piece veggie appetizer. Always looking CE it!
From the moment we stepped inside Trattoria Dell’Arte we were treated like family! Manager Yusuf shared the history of the restaurant and pointed out the amazing artwork throughout. Our server Joe was attentive and personable. Joe asked just the right questions to recommend selections from appetizers to desserts. Simply saying the food was superb isn’t enough. The cannolis were the best you’ll find in NYC hands down.

normally service is GREAT, but this visit had a disappointing experience. Food was great as usual - but hard to really enjoy when your being ignored......
Hadn't been there in at least 20 years but we will go back soon. Our table was right in the path of the waiters leaving the kitchen, so it was a bit like having dinner on the freeway, but the service was good and the food was outstanding. I often order branzino elsewhere, and it's always good, but this was the best so far. So moist and flavorful, just great. The vegetable starters were also wonderful. Don't miss the au gratin potatoes. I definitely recommend this place.
