Beautiful picture - if it stays on...
I received this TV through a prize drawing at a conference. Aside from being way larger than anything I would have actually purchased, it was great at first. Lots of great features, love the Android TV function (though it's a bit buggy at times), and the picture was beautiful - until it died. The TV was delivered in early February, and by early April the picture wouldn't stay on. One night, while streaming a movie, the screen just turned off. Sound was still on, backlight was still on, but the picture had gone to gray. I turned it off, waiting a minute or so, then on again. Picture came back on, but went out again about 30 minutes later. Every time I would "reset" it, the duration between shut-downs became a bit shorted. Eventually it would only stay on for 30 seconds to a minute. Google searching this issue showed several prior models with this issue, and they suggested the factory reset. I did that, and it seemed better, until it shut off again, about 10 minutes in. I called Sony customer support, and they sent out a repair guy who replaced the motherboard, but that didn't fix the issue. (He did say that he had replaced motherboards on 3 or 4 of this model in recent months.) Sony is sending a replacement TV since the repair didn't work - a slightly different, but newer, model, so hopefully the new one doesn't have any issues! I loved this TV for the few months that it worked, so if you can get one that doesn't have whatever defect mine did, it's great! (And I will say the Sony customer service did a pretty good job of handling this, even though the whole process of first report to replacement TV is going to take almost a month.)
