Met an old friend and his wife here for brunch. They were incredibly impressed with the classic interior setting and quiet of the inside section. The food is always excellent, the service prompt and courteous and it maintains its spot as one of the best brunch places in Saint Paul.
She made up for this though by giving an additional small appetizer to me which was nice. Also, the desert we ordered was a little dry and did not taste good so she replaced it with another option- all free of charge.
Lunch on the patio this time of year was great as always. Service by Mary L was great.
We had the mussels as an appetizer which were very good. Pork Chop was good but a little dry.
I had read several reviews of the restaurant and they mostly complained about poor service. Our waitress and her assistant were excellant-attentive but not hovering. Our food choices were not the same. I had the Crispy Duck breast, it did not have a crispy skin and whatever they had beneath it was almost in-etable. Food was great, but spendy. The service was wonderful. They gave us a complimentary glass of champagne because we were celebrating our anniversary. Overall it was a fun and comfortable evening!!!
Diver scallops - while cooked to perfection, were served with an oatmeal like tasteless mush, which ruined the experience of them. I'd have rather just had the scallops with a slice of lemon. Strangely, in comparison, roasted vegetables were divine. Maybe a more straightforward approach to everything would be better. Patio was charming as always. Service professional and timely. I'll go back and try again.
We had to change our reservation at the last minute and the reception desk was very helpful, even moved us outside as it was a beautiful night. Our server, the opera singer, was fantastic - explained the menu, answered our questions, refilled our wine on time, and of course, sang! The food was wonderful (pork chop and chicken). Thank you. I live out of state and visit my best friend here every year.
Excellent shrimp appetizer and grilled veggies. Beautiful outdoor setting. Server ignored us after bringing our food (he never cleared our table; we left without dessert; (one one hr. 20 min. at lunch should've been enough time to order dessert;) waited 10 min to get our credit card processed; asked twice for to-go boxes. Server's assistant was great, i.e., refilling water, bringing cutlery, pleasant demeanor.
