Beautifully-designed and decorated restaurant in the heart of the Gaslamp District in San Diego. Street parking is a challenge, but there's a parking garage 1 block away. Service is good, but can be delayed when busy. Pricing is higher than average. Interesting mix of Japanese, Thai and American cuisines. On weekends, after 8p a DJ comes in and it transforms into a nightclub. Standout appetizer: Lollipop Lamb Chops (3). Standout Entree: Miso Black Cod.

Food was great. We really enjoyed the yellow tail sushi, crispy crab sushi, and poke appetizer. The filet dumplings were ok, but not overly impressive. We had a few rounds of tbe lychee martinis because they were so good. It was my wife's birthday so we were disappointed to be sat at a bar table, however, after we shared our displeasure with the server they found us a tabke in the restaurant area. It took a few minutes to get service after that. Also, we exchanged three servers in the visit which made the level of service in... read more

Overall, we had a great dinner at AKA. My fiancé and I were celebrating our anniversary, and they truly made it feel special. We ordered the set menu, which was a great value for everything included, and the interior décor was fun and entertaining to take in. What really stood out was how they helped us celebrate — they brought out our desserts with sparklers and even included an extra celebratory shot, which was such a thoughtful touch. The food was good (not mind-blowing), but the ambiance and overall experience are what m... read more

We went for resturant week and had a reservation right when the place opened and were seating in a central location. For the first 10-15 minutes, the waiter was pretty attentive but once other tables started showing up, it was very very difficult to get his attention. He stoped coming by the table to check, and each time we needed something we had to wave him down which stretched the dinner to 2 hours (which is fine, we weren’t expecting to get in and out quickly.) Overall it was still enjoyable but would have liked the wait... read more

Everything was fantastic, filet mignon was perfectly cooked & that sauce is to die for! Don’t pass on the wasabi potatoes- they’re the perfect pairing in 1 dish. Appetizers came out quickly, great recommendations from Troy. Definitely coming back for Omakase box— it looked gorgeous on the table next to us & they ate every piece!
