They get one star for their prices. When searched for my local propane provider a little over a year ago on the internet and when clicked on the call I ended up calling Amerigas. I assumed that they bought them out only to find out that they hadn't. Still not sure how they did that. Amerigas seemed okay in the beginning, but that was before I was put on auto delivery for propane. We purchased our house July 2020. The previous owners had propane thru local Gas Company, Wakulla Gas. When it came time to transfer the service to our account, we found out Amerigas had purchased the previous company. We didn't have time to research other companies, so we figured we'd stay with Amerigas. Big Mistake. Fast forward to July 2023, as limited in typing information. AmeriGas started charging for non gas services. Price lock in for prices 1 dollar a gallon higher than the local company, then added 36 dollar a month late fee, then took those off or said they would and told me it was a contract I did not sign. The I tried to cancel and they sent me to a retention specialist who was submitting my request charge me another months late fee and then an extra 290 tank free rental. so now I started at 127 dollars was changed to 600 dollars in charges, non of this is for any gas at all. MORE EXPENSIVE PROPANE WITH THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE!! I was with Amerigas for 2.5 years before we canceled after we realized they were charging almost $2/gallon more for propane than the other companies in the area. When I called to cancel they said that they would waive the cancellation fee as well as the tank pick-up fee, and I would just have to call back after the account closed to get the fees removed. I agree, AmeriGas is an awful company. As a new homeowner, I unfortunately bought a house with a leased propane tank from AmeriGas, thinking it was owned. My mistake for not asking the right questions. Issues arose when I got a bill a week after setting up the account, amounting to over $900 for gas. However, the local AmeriGas representative claimed the tank was 75% full. Overcharged me a little over $600. I was knowingly charged $140 for leak check fee and was given a reference number to call in with to get that refunded after delivery. It took about 6 phone calls over a little over a month to get that credited back to account. Last couple phone calls got a little heated. Then took several more calls to get my money returned to me. This company always let me run out of gas due to not repairing the gage on the propane tank at least twice a year. Every time I ran out due to the negligence of not fixing their tank, they charged me a 300-dollar emergency fill up fee. After dealing with this for longer than I should I called to have them come pick up their tank, Now I have received a bill for 200.00 dollars for them to retrieve their own equipment. Too bad a 0 isn't an option.
My husband received a call telling us we would be able to have our gas delivered automatically without having to place the order ourselves any more. He was thrilled. Then gas was not delivered to our business, a kitchen, which cannot be open without propane. We ran out. It was horrible. I have been an AmeriGas customer ever since they bought Hughes Propane. I paid $799 last year for propane for 100 gallons! They put a monitor on my tank, so I can’t see gas%. They failed to notify me as I have only 3 gallons left! Now they want $200 to deliver propane in next 72 hours! I must wait at least 7 days for delivery or pay the $200!
