I would recommend Avila Senior Living at Downtown SLO. It's a small community feel. If you want extra special food, it may not meet your wants. But the food is cooked fresh and is planned by a nutritionist. You need patience waiting for food to be served sometimes. All of my needs are met and I feel safe.

Super positive staff. They learn everyone's name immediately. There are lots of fun activities. Oscar is a great Activities Director. Super upbeat, fun but also very caring. Really glad mom moved here!

The staff changeover is quite extreme. In just four months...the food quality has lowered. And they are low on staff in the dining room. And a couple of their best staff have left. They have a new activities Director who is energetic n happy and hopefully he will stick around. the med-techs are amazing. The staff are very kind and capable. Residents seem quite friendly and happy and make friends easily. One resident plays piano regularly. Its all very clean and lovely and homey. Avila assisted living in San Luis Obispo has had some challenges in the past year and a half. They changed ownership recently. There has been dissatisfaction by residents and families. But I believe they are working hard to address several issues and make improvements. I was pleased to finally tour the facility. It is a lovely campus. Remodeling is happening at the moment. They were very helpful during the entire process and I only wish the respite care allowed her to stay here for a longer period of time. The maximum stay for their respite care is 45 days.

The community was under new management, so it was not as together as other places. The rooms were being renovated, but the rooms that I saw, that were not being renovated were okay. Also, it wasn't as pet friendly.

Hard to isolate any individual for above and beyond service as entire staff qualify. Mom has been a resident since [date removed] and needs the top level of care provided. We consider this place over home and everyone is professional, caring, kind and helpful.

I chose Avila because it is in a good location so I could walk to things. The apartment sizes here vary, I have a studio with a bathroom and kitchenette. In my opinion, the food is not very good. Some things are ok, but I have only eaten 1 really good meal from the time I have been here. They serve a lot of chicken so there is not a lot of variety. Every week the facility does do a happy hour and they have basic activities such as bingo and puzzles. I would question who runs this place, it is run by a corporation in San Dieg... read more
