In 1995 founders Bruce Dean and Bob & Laurie Manley opened the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, CA. Their mission was simple: create a fun and friendly atmosphere where the local community could enjoy huge portions of home-style cooking at a reasonable price. My first visit was during the training (Facebook contest) this visit was phenomenal!! Two visits since have both been horrible long long waits with visibly open tables. Wait staff forget food, half our party didn't get their food for a good 15 min from the other half, making our experience so long, cold food no salads with entres that come with it, drink refills never came. It's understaffed or under trained. The food can be wonderful! I've seen it but only once

When we got there they said it would be a 30+ minute wait for three. (It was fairly busy, so reasonable) as we sat waiting we saw table after table get up and leave, leaving 8 empty tables at one point needing to be bussed. Waitresses would come bus one table at a time and sit a couple or two. But still had about 7 empty tables with no one cleaning them up. Waited 25 mins for table which was fine we knew we would have to wait! But once seated the waitress and service was horrible. She was telling us she had another table and we listened to her tell them her brain was in California but her body was in Utah and cold. She spilled cold water all over my leg when pouring our waters! She never served us our food another waitress did and It was cold, who likes cold eggs? it's been hit and miss the first visit they got my order completely wrong twice i ended up with three types of potatoes at the end didn't want to wait in line so tried take out well that didn't go well either ordered two well done steaks got medium rare ordered a taco salad it was absolutely gross meat tasted bad i understand they are working out kinks and are new but at what expense? i tried it in store again yesterday and got all the right food and everything seemed ok but there were upset customers next to us the bussing ... read more
