In 1995 founders Bruce Dean and Bob & Laurie Manley opened the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, CA. Service was ok....I was horribly disappointed in the food...and so was my friend...Waffle was soggy...no taste...bacon was not crispy and had big chunks of fat ...could hardly chew it....hash browns were so soggy...we left them...

Service was great. Overly good. All new staff tho in comparison to prior visits. Was just in a couple weeks prior and had one of our fave waitresses, Katie. Also love Bee and Kurt. Last visit we came during the day and got the grizz breakfast. It was fantastic. Have craved it ever since and went last night. Obviously not the same cooks as day shift. Eggs were overcooked. Hash browns and fried red potatoes were raw, barely cooked at all. We didn't complain. Waitress noticed the eggs weren't eaten and took it off the bill. We ... read more

breakfast food was good but the customer service was the worst
TERRIBLE. My family decided for my 40th birthday we would do take out and rent a movie. Sounds relaxing right?! Called black bear for take out the girl that answered asked me what I wanted to order and then when I started my order she SET THE PHONE DOWN. I kept saying hello and then I heard her voice from a distance say "it's just a to go order, nothing important!" Foolishly I still waited and finally gave a different woman my order. When we opened our containers the fish and chips had ONE piece of fish and NO chips, the veg... read more

Really really awful service. Won't be back and will tell everyone I know. They need new wait staff, especially day shift waitress Teresa. It's a shame because we love the food.
Hmmmm. It's a shame that the service in the Reno location has gone south. It used to be spot on...not any longer. I have always said, if you are having a bad day and you are in the service industry and serve the public, leave your bad day outside the door. Poor customer service is at the top of the list and when that fails you loose business. We will go elsewhere.
