Great experience. The staff and manager were so nice and we loved the food.
A friend and I were frequent visitors to Brooklyn Diner following our Carnegie Hall concerts. We returned yesterday ( July 30) for an alfresco lunch. The restored version is no less inviting with impecable service and scrumptious favorite cuisine. Our veggie and crab burgers coud not be surpassed. Luscious cheesecake with just the right sweetness rewarding a gratified palate. Prices were reasonable in lieu of the quality. The food was good. I had your basic tuna fish sandwich and an iced tea. There was four of us with similar choices and consensus was it was overpriced for what we received.
Service people all seemed to be rushing around like crazy dealing with outside and inside tables. Inside was not particularly busy but nonetheless difficult to get a waiter's attention to order. I had the Pastrami Rueben overly soaked in dressing and the fries were tasteless -- I can't say this was a bad experience -- BUT I was hoping for better.
It was a cool day to sit outside and enjoy our meal. The food was plentiful and very tasty. Armando, our waiter, was exceptional.
We visit Brooklyn Diner every December when we are in New York, we absolutely LOVE it! The food, the atmosphere, the staff...it’s a MUST!!
The split pea soup was excellent. The Nona's Italian Pot was outstanding. And: Allen Grubman's Chocolate Blackout Cake was the best dessert that I have had in years.
We reserved a table for six people who needed an environment to share schoolyard stories that spanned some sixty years. We were able to be ourselves at all times plus enjoying some really good food. Quality experience all the way around.
Seating was a little tight, but the food was definitely above standard diner fare. Portions were larger than expected.
