We had a few changes with our group and the staff were very accommodating. The waiter was attentive but the food took a long time to come out. That may be because of the large group also dining. All in all, it was a good experience.
Great spot in Harlem to enjoy good food, service, ambiance and good music. it is on my list of favorites and I recommend it to others.
This was my second time going to Chocolat. I went for lunch and I had the Penne with Salmon and a Strawberry Martini. Although the waitstaff consisted of only 2 people, it definitely was a particularly busy time and they were attentive. My Penne was more of a white sauce like Penne alla Vodka in lieu of the red sauce that I had on my prior visit. The salmon was a little overcooked but I enjoyed the experience just the same. I only wish that I could have had ROOM for dessert. I'll definitely make room for it next time.
Our salads were delish, in particular the crispy calamari salad with sesame soy dressing. Small downsides: the staff is apparently not used to serving most of the cocktails (they confused our order of "French on 8th Avenue" with the "French Kiss" not once but twice), and the only beers available were Amstel Light, Heineken, and Coors (the menu lists Duvel, Stella Artois, and others).
They played FANTASTIC R&B and Soul music that worked perfectly with the atmosphere (I wanted to ask for a copy of the CD's). Service was friendly and there looked to be a great mix of neighborhood and non-neighborhood patrons. What I ate was lovely and the food ordered by others looked fantastic. Only drawback was a member of my party wanted something fresh fruit related and they didn't have that available. But I would absolutely make this a mainstay during my NYC visits.
We went on a Thursday night and the place was very energetic. There was a live band who interacted with the crowd very well. The food was excellent.
I thought the restaurant was a great atmosphere. but I was a little disappointed with the food. The mac and cheese was basically a piece of chedder cheese melted on top of the macoroni. The cheese and macoroni was not incorporated at all. Also, it was tasteless. The steak was alright...but again lacked flavor. My friend had salmon w/penne. That was so so as well. For an upscale restaurant, I expected more with the food.
