Boy I was surprised. The support brackets are a strong plastic material. The expandable horizontal rods are made of coated metal. Assembly and install instructions easy to understand and very informative. My wife picked out this shelf. I thought it was going to be another cheap piece of plastic. Again I was proven wrong. Loved that there were no cuts to make (like traditional wire shelving) making the customization much easier. It is holding up my clothing without a struggle. And the price was beyond reasonable compared to tradition wire shelving.
