Dr. Dougherty brought me through a very difficult surgery to remove a portion of my colon damaged by diverticulitis. Through her skill and dedication I am now completely recovered. I have the utmost confidence in her.

I was very pleased with the services I received at Dr. Plerhoples office. His staff was warm and engaging. I did not feel like being there was a bother to them. He was pleasant, answered all my questions, explained everything that would be done and performed my procedure with efficiency. I did not feel like he was rushing to get me out, he took his time which I appreciated. I hope I don't have to go back but if I need anything else like that done , he will be the one I call.

It has been a long time since I have experienced such a knowledgable and caring Doctor that truly had my best interests at heart. Hands down I would recommend Dr. Plerhoples as your caring and knowledgable surgeon. Put your health in his hands let him do the rest.

Dr. Stern first saw me at INOVA emergency room, he was the only doctor to correctly diagnose my condition. My condition was fairly complicated and without his diagnosis I could have become septic. He was compassionate, professional and extremely knowledgeable. I would highly recommend Dr. Stern to anyone who is looking for a specialist in the colon and rectal field.

My surgery with Dr. Matzie at has been life-altering. In August 2020, Dr. Matzie performed a robotic surgery to correct a rectal prolapse using mesh. Unfortunately, this procedure has resulted in 4 years of excruciating pain, 3 additional surgeries at renowned institutions, including the Cleveland Clinic and nearly $90,000 in out-of-pocket expenses. Despite these efforts, I have found no relief. Her approach to my care was marred by negligence and dismissiveness. During my post-op visit, I expressed concerns about severe post... read more

I went to see Dr Matzie for a surgical consult per recommendation. She was rude, condescending, told me surgery would not help, but then told me how she does the surgery and gave me a surgical packet. She had no bedside manner and seemed very unsteady. She actually had me tears. DEFINITELY DO NOT SEE HER!!

I was told by my GI that I had a hemorrhoid and I needed to see a proctologist. I was given one in MD - DC area. I called and was told they could get to me in July. WHAT? I was dying in pain and needed to be seen right away. Their response - 'sorry'. I hung up, googled, and found Dr. Stern. I called and was told me he was in the Alexandria office. I didn't care as I was miserable. I was told to come in right then, and he would work me in between his office patients.I got to the office and was brought back in less than 10 min... read more

I was referred to Dr. Stern from Inova Alexandria ER and didn't know what to expect. His nurse asked questions that he never followed up on himself -- and when he went to do an exam, he didn't give any forewarning of what he was looking for or what the exam encompassed. It was painful and uncomfortable, and awkward. After, when he told me what his findings were, his bedside manner made me feel uncomfortable. He explained I needed a colonoscopy before surgery but then mocked his GI colleagues as he explained most of them will... read more
