we visited this place for my dad's birthday. The restaurant has a comfy and open feel. The service is attentive but not overbearing. They even brought a small ice cream with a candle for him (a nice touch). The food was delicious and the portion sizes were suitable for our group of five. All of us left feeling full.
This was our 3rd time eating here and each time the food was delicious. The wide variety of flavors and ingredients made the selection of dishes difficult. It was my first time have a young coconut drink - so fresh and cold with that lovely layer of coconut meat for dessert! They were also flexible with our reservations since I called about being late due to traffic.
We have never been disappointed with any of the food choices--and there are many--offered by Rangoon Ruby. Regardless of whether at the San Carlos or Palo Alto sites, the food is consistently tasty and fresh. If you don't have anything else, the Tea Leaf Salad is a must. While the Tea Leaf Salad is a favorite, there isn't a dish--and cumulatively, we've probably had virtually all of the dishes on the menu--that does not exceed the mark. My fifth time eating at a Rangoon Ruby's; three times in Palo Alto and twice here. Food is always superb. I do prefer the San Carlos location though for three reasons; less noisy, feels less crowed and it is easier to find parking. The Green Mango Salad is a "must have" on every visit!
It's my go to place. Try the Northern fried Tofu (from a tofu hater) it's fabulous. Of course the tea salad is great. I particularly like the marinated shrimp dishes and coconut rice.
Great place for a casual meal. Wonderful flavors. The Tea Leaf Salad is a standout.
The only downside to this restaurant, which is otherwise outstanding, is that it is noisy when busy. Fr this reason it is not a good place for an intimate romantic night out. There are sidewalk tables which may be better since Laurel street is not a busy thoroughfare. Despite this I would highly recommend Rangoon Ruby's for the amazing and unusual cuisine.
The place has great food. But the tables are placed way too close!
