I made an appointment for 1:00pm and arrived a few minutes early. The color appointment didn't start until 1:30pm. When asked the assistant when the coloring would start, the stylist yells from across the room "I'm the only stylist. I'll get to you then Im done with the color with this customer". If the stylist is going to be late, a call would be appreciated notifying that your staff is running late. I have been coloring my hair for almost 20 years and this was the absolute worst experience I have ever had. I went in to have full color applied. I needed my grays covered and I wanted to go a shade lighter since I knew my color was too dark. The colorist confirmed my color was too dark and recommended a shade lighter. I asked her how a lighter shade would look if she just applied it onto my current dark color. She couldn't give me a good answer, but just kept telling me it would be fine and the colors would blend. Visited MR for the first time, color was left on for almost an hour before it was washed off instead of 35 mins, no one checked on it while I was waiting, It came out much darker. Stylist did not wash it off properly or dry my hair properly so I cane home and washed it again. Their products are good but the salon experience is poor.

I seriously don't know how a color bar can go from 5 stars to 1. I was crying after this hair appointment. I had an appointment at 5:30 and they had me wait until 6pm for an available colorist, then rushed my hair. I asked if I could get a slightly lighter shade since it's summer and they said no because I apparently still had the dye in my hair from last time, which was early November 2020. I was confused. So this was my second visit to this location, my first visit was in August of 2020. So my review is a combo of both visits from today and from last August. Both times the colorist who did my hair did an excellent job 5 stars for both of them. Today the gentleman who checked me in and out, and washed my hair also excellent 5 stars for him. Did not enjoy my first (and now last) experience at Madison Reed color bar. I came in with a medium reddish brown and based on the consultation, should have walked out with a medium to dark brown. Sadly this did not happen. I did not get the impression the stylist new what she was doing. She made claims about the color and the process that did not turn out to be true - the color came out way too dark (nearly black!) and very harsh, and my hair, once it air dried, had the texture of straw.
