Very good experience. Food was excellent and service was great. This was our 1st visit, and we will probably return.
My first visit won't be my last. My parents came in from Chicago and they said that if they lived here this is where they would eat at least once a month. Small tables and big plates made it tight for a table of 4 but managable.
We enjoyed it overall, it didn't knock our socks off but we will definitely be back. The bread and salad were good. The tomato basil soup is definitely worth checking out. Some of the main upper price entrees (ribeye, etc.) were out at 7:30 in the evening. The waitress was attentive enough and the courses typically flowed without delay - until we found out there was no ribeye - then there was a slight delay. Great place for a family gathering or for two. Excellent food and service.
This restaurant offered a great value for my husband's birthday with their free birthday entre of lobster ravioli. The $1.99 drinks before 6 PM were great. The swordfish was good but not outstanding. We would go back - knowing you get a good meal for the money spent.
We came on a late winter evening and in our reservation, asked to be seated near one of the fireplaces - a request that was accommodated without prompting when we arrived. It was a bit slow for a Saturday evening but the waitress was very attentive and the food was fine. While we waited for out friends to arrive, we enjoyed some wine and appetizers and when they came, our waitress was there to ensure they were greeted and taken care of promptly. I had higher hopes for Mangiamo. I was excited to see Neopolitan pizza on the menu only to be disappointed when it came out. The flour was right, the tomato sauce was right but then to ruin it with Basil from a McCormick jar and to have two different kinds of Mozzarella?? The Pesto Walleye was good and the wine list had some nice choices.
The exterior is beautiful, the interior is very well appointed. Dining for a special occasion, so the location was magnificent. The service was good to very good, and the food was enjoyable. One course (the pasta pesto dish) was a bit bland, but overall there were more positives than negatives. Can not wait for the weather to turn around so patio seating is an option again! Will definitely be returning!
Mangiamo is one of my favorite eateries in Grand Rapids. It rates with some the best in the state for Food and Ambiance.
