After my husband Tyler and I got married we knew right away that we wanted to adopt a puppy. We found Lincoln (lab shepherd mix) at Happy Tails who was rescued from an Indian Reservation and in pretty bad shape. Needless to say, we instantly fell in love with him and at 6 weeks old he was ours...our perfect fur baby that would grow up to be just like Air Bud or Chance from Homeward Bound...right?!. He has since grown to be a very energetic 8-month-old who loves to counter surf, chew on shoes, jump and bark at anyone and anything, especially if you aren't paying attention to him and pulls so hard on the leash that I get a full arm workout. We also felt bad leaving to go anywhere because Lincoln has so much anxiety being alone that it takes both Tyler and me to put him in a kennel. Lincoln was and still is the love of our lives so much that we overlooked everything that he needed to work on. When he ate the burgers off the counter or started barking at someone walking outside, we always said next time...next time we will reprimand him more, next time he will listen or next time he just won't do it. Every time we tried to work with Lincoln, it either didn't stick with him or we weren't educated on how to train him. Lincoln needed guidance and training that Tyler and I could not give him...he needed a professional. That's where Chris comes in! Tyler found Chris online and I, of course, was very hesitant. I had questions - where was Lincoln going to stay? What was the training process like? Who was going to feed him? What if he doesn't adjust? What if he misses me? (now I'm sounding like the crazy dog mom). Chris came and picked Lincoln up, spent the time to answer all our questions and wrote down exactly what Lincoln needed work on. I knew after talking with Chris and going over everything that Lincoln was in good hands! Throughout the three weeks, we received updates on how Lincoln was doing and could call anytime if we had any questions or concerns. After the three weeks were over, Chris drove Lincoln back to us where he spent time going over everything. From the commands to actually walking through the steps with Lincoln so we were comfortable after he left. Chris definitely has a gift when it comes to training dogs (and dog's owners, like us ;) and you can tell he is passionate about what he does. We enjoy going on walks now, Lincoln no longer barks or jumps, counter surfs and is fully kennel trained. Our families and neighbors have seen a big improvement with Lincoln and we will forever be grateful for Chris and the staff at Midwest Dog Training.
