Okay, moving through the stages of grief. Now at anger. Why in heaven's name would Palmetto Dunes, an oceanfront resort, allow 8 feet alligators in their resort ponds? Yes, it is posted that alligators may live here but then why was the alligator removed this morning after killing our precious Abbey? The alligator had been there for days. We just got back from a month here, and I'm already missing it. I spent much of my time taking golf and tennis lessons, and I decided to splurge on the best. So I took my golf lessons from Doug Weaver and my tennis lessons from Eric Wammock. Both have spent time on the pro tour, and it shows. Great views and you can see FRIENDLY alligators! Sometimes turtles will appear! Luxurious houses it deserves five stars!
Arrived on 8/31/19 to a very hot villa, broken ac. There were bugs on the floor and other people's trash still in the unit. You step back into the 1980's at many of the villas. We have visited several years in a row but will not go back. Also, do not buy vacation assurance from Palmetto Dunes. It did not work well when we were evacuated for hurricane Dorian. Big bummer of a vacation!
A bit overpriced for no real reason. It's quaint and quiet but very outdated in terms of the interior of the rental properties. We stayed in a two bedroom but the beds were uncomfortable all around. Towels were cheap, the furniture was okay. You have to drive to the beach. The cleaning fee is double if not triple what any Airbnb would charge. Explore all options before staying here.
Hilton Head Island is a quintessential destination due to the way it was developed and the natural beauty of the South Carolina barrier islands. Our favorite location to stay on Hilton Head Island! Located mid-island, it is easy to get to all of the popular places on the island like Shelter Cove, Coligny, and South Beach. The beachfront is beautiful and easily accessible from many properties within the resort. The bike paths are wide and smooth. It has three golf courses and a "hopping" General Store! Many rental properties from which to choose: homes, condos, villas!
My family has been going to Palmetto Dunes for the past 5 years almost every summer. We just returned from our last stay this week and have decided that based on the series of disappointments, we will not be returning. We rented a two bedroom ocean view condo during their peak week. You would think it would be clean upon arrival. But instead I spent the first 30 minutes using a vacuum to remove all the sand from the floor. Clearly the floors were not cleaned. Amazing resort! It's a huge property. Very clean and secure. Security Checks for the pass on your car every time you leave the property. There are restaurants and stores. The beaches are clean and you're able to rent chairs and umbrellas. The rate is cheaper if you rent for a few consecutive days. The beach bar makes great drinks! The tiger paw was my favorite frozen peachy drink!! Friday's they have live music.You can rent bikes and ride around. There are also tennis courts and pools as well. Great for families!!
