I had a successful and painless MOHS basal cell removal at California Skin Institute this month. This was especially significant because, months before, I'd had a painful BIOPSY at a different dermatology practice where I'd been told the pain was due to my "low pain threshold" (way to blame the victim). My 1 star is for Dr. Cabral, though I would give him a "0" if it were available on here. He is crass, uncaring and only cares about ushering people through as quickly as possible in order to make more money. I went after a brush with melanoma about 20 years ago. I need to have yearly skin checks, so Santa Rosa is closer to me than UCSF. The first time I saw Dr. Cabral, he was kind enough, but in NO way as thorough as my doctors at UCSF. I thought it was just because I was new, or he was in a hurry...or whatever. I went again... read more

I just returned from the California Skin Institute in Castro Valley, Mohs Clinic where I had a Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) removed on my face by DR. Erik Cabral. This fantastic Doctor, a medical dermatologist and "genius" (my words) in Mohs micrographic, reconstructive surgery and dermatologic oncology. Dr. Cabral diagnosed a basal cell carcinoma on my nose in 2017. I had been to another dermatologist who thought it was rosacea. Thus, a delay in seeking a second opinion led to three "layers" of excision to reach clean margins. With a dime-sized hole in the center of my face, Dr. Cabral created a "flap" from other skin tissue on my nose and I walked out with a small bandage and re-checks every couple of weeks. After seeing Dr Friedenthal in Santa Rosa for a surgical consultation on a facial scar, I was told the doctor would contact my insurance company for coverage. Over 3 months and FIVE calls inquiring whether the doctor made the call, each time I was told the doctor would "do it tomorrow and give me a call afterwards." Sucks! Dr. Cabral is insensitive and unengaging. If you want the bum's rush and a care-less, dismissive attitude, this is the place for you.

The support staff is knowledgeable and patient,especially Jamie who was able to answer all my questions and alleviate many concerns in a gentle and professional manner.Jamie is impressive dealing with a stressful situation.

The doctor Cabral and his whole staff is what any patient would look for. If you are interested in a personal and excellent service go here. It has variety of treatments and the results speak by itself.

Dr. Cabral is a GREAT PHYSICIAN! He was courteous, professional and friendly. I was really worried about a new large mark on my back. He evaluated it and treated it with an easy to follow treatment plan. In less than a week the mark was gone. I have been to other dermatologists that tend to be rude and dismissive about my skin care needs--Dr. Cabral is nothing like that! I would HIGHLY recommend him to my family, friends, and anyone that wants to be treated by a competent and respectable physician!
