Verified Renter Shirlington House is conveniently located close to Shirlington Village. Has good bus connections and the units are spacious. It is very convenient to have a market in the building and the best of all is the front desk staff who is very friendly.
Verified Renter SH is under renovation. If you are prepared to deal with the constant drilling and sounds of jack hammers come on in. This use to be an awesome place to live. Now, they don't even wash the carpets. In August they told us the gym would be renovated. While they have had the time to plant shrubs which have died and been replanted (probably to die again), they don't seem to have the wherewithal to make a planned renovation during which they finish anything.
Do Not Move Here Stay Away! You'll feel like you're trespassing on your own property if you rent here. 1. Bell Partners is performing renovations in units throughout the building that are disrupting tenants' lives without compensation or regard for their health and well-being. 2. The water was shut off each week for an ENTIRE day for months at a time. We have all of the emails about the shutoffs. This is more than an inconvenience. It is illegal. We have read the statutes. 3. Verified Renter Living at Shirlington House? A good location but that is about it! Indiscriminate regard for your property and near constant rent & fee increases is my experience! You can do better so keep looking for a better residential building!
Horrible Management While the apartments are nice enough, when Bells Partner's took over the management of the building has declined so drastically that it affects how residents feel about living here. Bell's decided to upgrade apartments without asking tenants if they wanted the upgrades or when was a good time for them. No security even after rape one block away DO NOT MOVE IN HERE!! UNSAFE!! I just visited a family member for Thanksgiving and I am terrified for her and these living conditions. I can not believe that this apartment complex allows their side entrance doors from the parking lot to the hallway of residents to be unlocked!!! Not worth the pain of management New management is terrible. Overcharged me for rent by $400 and had to follow-up in person four times over the course of 2 months in order to get my money back. Constant renovations, and for the last 3 months they have shut off the water to the entire building at least one day a week for the entire day. Today they just slid papers under everyone's doors saying they are taking away bike storage in 2 days and donating every bike to charity. Just awful DO NOT live here. It’s like living in the developing world (sorry if that’s not PC). At least once a month - sometimes more often? - the building shuts off all running water (!!!!!) from 9-5 so they can “make upgrades.” It’s obscene. What on earth are they working on? How is that even allowed? The pictures they post look nice but the hallways throughout the building have nasty stained carpets, dingy lighting, peeling paint, etc. The elevators are ugly and oh - those break all the time too. Wouldn't do it again This place went from ok to bad to disgusting in a few years. The pros Location- in Shirlington with great restaurants, theaters, and bike trails Cons -Horrible management- I have never encountered management that is more inept and uncaring - the carpet is disgusting. They do not clean as often as they should. With pets everywhere it's just gross. - rent keeps going up despite the lack of improvements - horrible airconditioning.
