Located in Northern California’s Mendocino County there is a skunk running through the redwood forest, but this isn’t any skunk, it’s the world famous Skunk Train. The California redwoods, pristine coastline, and award winning vineyards are all a part of the landscape of what makes Mendocino County such an amazing place and home to this 131-year-old train.

We rode the train on 3/12 in Willits. When we checked in we told the staff we were celebrating our 24th anniversary and were excited to spend the day on the train. After we departed the station and were on our way, Pam presented my husband and I with a history book of the train, signed by all the staff. I enjoyed reading about the sign posts as we rode past the signs. The day was perfect, the staff made it memorable. Thank you all for the book, it is now part of our special day. Oh and Jeff’s forehead is ok!! Thank yo... read more

There was a fireplace in the train car that kept it nice and toasty warm. I dressed for the weather and was one of a few hardy folks that took advantage of the open sided car. The echo of the train whistle through the hills and valleys left me reminiscing about days of old. All the train personnel were knowledgeable about the history, flora and fauna along the route. Great historical train ride, conductors giving information as we ride along, friendly towns folk wave as we go through town to the Redwoods, neat old train, observation car safe for kids. All this plus a great station and gift shop. Highly recommend for individuals and families, alike!
My significant other and I had an amazing time riding the Skunk Train. It is totally worth the $20 per person "investment." You get to see beautiful scenery as you move through the Redwood Forest at a mild speed....which makes for wonderful photographs. They sell beverages and snacks on the train, including beer and popcorn (which I did not partake in as it was 11am). The speaker system blasts the conductor's voice so you can hear about the surrounding ecosystem and what plants/trees/animals you may expect to see. It was l... read more

My husband and I rode the Skunk Train last Sunday and loved it. The conductor was wonderful and informative. Beautiful scenery. The people inside the gift shop were just as nice. My husband mentioned that we were there for our anniversary and the ticket lady gave us free drink coupons. We had a wonderful experience. Will definitely come back.
