I've been using the extensions app to keep my US # while I'm traveling in Europe. Sound quality is decent and free US calling is great. The only issue is it is inconsistent notifying you of incoming calls. If you leave the app up and the screen unlocked, it works fine, but if not you may miss some incoming calls.
Update to below review: After using this app for a couple of months, some things are great, some things are a pain. Just read the other comments and you can read all the gripes. Normally, everything from Vonage is simple, effortless. For basic calling, sure, this app is easy and the quality is good. I have been using Extensions in the US for a year without any problems. I make and receive calls just like I'm home. In September of this year, I started a new phone plan with T-Mobile which gives me unlimited data and text in over 100 countries. I have travelled to Poland, France, and Japan and have made free calls over the cellular network wherever I was without cost. The calls were made as data calls even though I was not on wifi. Poor cell phone reception limits its use in my house. This app allows completely alleviates that problem!
Seamless, easy to use. All my contacts on my Vonage phone are now accessible on my cellphone. Also gives me access to my Vonage account where I can listen to voicemails and access call records. You can even use the app to call from anywhere. Just make sure to activate - register the app on your cellphone while in the same region where your Vonage phone is based.
I have been using this app for over an year. It's almost like using a regular cell phone over 4g. When I make international calls, I can dial directly, just like a regular phone, but with all the benefits of Vonage.
Used it in USA, Europe and China, never any issues at all, love it.
I like how this app has evolved over the last year. Where one year ago it was a nice extension to the phone, now it is getting closer to replacing it. Would appreciate a more robust integration in the apple platform and perhaps a very simple watch app (display caller name and option to answer or decline).
