Simple, homemade-like fare. 5 of us went for brunch. I had poached eggs on crabmeat hash. The plate came with their special muffin, think English muffin but chewy and denser, which I enjoyed. One of my company had waffles with eggs and bacon. The bacon was excellent. The waffles were not hot enough and were a bit soggy. The service was lacking. Westville Hudson has at great overall atmosphere with a variety of food choices. After varied tryings I can say that most items will be great! There is a full bar at this location along with spacious city seating (for NYC), those factors combined make it a great place to get together with friends of for a brunch, lunch or dinner! When I doubt where I want to go, I can count on Westville Hudson.
The reason I go to Westville is their long list of market sides. They have about 20 sides - all done in an interesting and delicious way. They also know how to make a good cocktail. It is low key and the food is always good. It is up the block from City Winery so it is where we go before a show. I recommend a reservation, it gets crowded a lot since it is one of the only decent, affordable restaurants in the area.
We had a dinner reservation for Westville and when we showed up, the hostess created a table for us in the bar area seating us extremely close to a rowdy group of happy hour goers. As we were so close we were elbowed or touched multiple times. It was very disappointing to be seated in such a tight area and the food was only okay, but nothing worth repeating. Food was good - as I've been here before in a smaller party. Service was mediocre that night. Our first waitress was nice and accommodating, but it was just towards the end when other employees who cared less. We were willing to pay for the birthday cake fee to have it served there, but a man just brought it in the bag and asked whose cake it was. Plopped it down on the table in the bag and left it there. Overall, had a great experience at Westville - went to the one on Hudson, so was able to make a reservation, whereas I hear the other locations can be quite a wait. The service was attentive and friendly. The food is delicious - they have a ton of side options that held up to their reputation. Prices are fairly affordable and can range from "cheaper nice meal" to "nice restaurant meal" depending on what you get.
Reasonably priced good food. Hard to find in NYC. First time at Westville Hudson. Portions are big. We arrived early, were seated within 5 minutes even though one of the folks in our party didn't arrive for another 30 minutes. Service was good and we were never rushed. Lots on veggies on the menu. Very good but you don't need to over order. Entrees do come with sides. We will return.
We were a group of twelve at 12:30 on a Saturday. Included in our group were four children ages ranging from two to five. There were crowds of people waiting for tables but our table was set and ready for us when we arrived. We sat as soon as six of us arrived and it was about a half hour before everyone showed up. Westville has great, delicious, versatile menu offerings (I especially recommend the Market Plate and my dining companion recommends the Waffles with Simple Fruit Topping). The service was very friendly and efficient, despite the busyness of a Saturday late-morning/brunch rush.
