Right away the smell when coming in here is very over overwhelming and even makes your head start to hurt. Got in line to buy three tickets but couldn't even do it , ended up having to leave because the smell was so overwhelming even in the front checkout. We had to go out for fresh air to stop us from throwing up and decided to just go home.

TLDR; overpriced ($14 entry +$30-40 optional -- but recommended -- tokens per person for animal interactions), lack of effective signage, crammed spaces and overcrowding (for people and for the animals!). We had a poor experience with an incredibly rude employee, and a decent experience with the porcupine and stingray interactions. Animal care: I am by no means an expert in animal care, but I did feel that many exhibits were small and overcrowded. Many of the bird cages contained 15-20+ birds from vastly different regions. I have taken my son (3 yr old) here several times over the last 3 years. It breaks my heart because he loves this place so much. He absolutely adores ocean life and aquariums but I think this past visit will be our last. I think their first room is their best room followed by the sting rays and then everything else is bothersome. The bird areas had a horrible odor and the ducks nearby looked so sad. The staff was...I dunno one guy shoved past me and my child and baby in a stroller and the guy at the front desk was juuuust ni... read more

This place scammed my mother out of over $200. We booked a trip to the aquarium while visiting from Washington State. We purchased tickets online ahead of time, and when we got to will-call they had lost our tickets. Fortunately we had our email confirmation. The person working the desk offered my mom a a deal as a way to say sorry for their mistake and our inconvenience. She said 'I'll add an annual membership for just $50 more so you can come back and visit as many times as you would like during your visit here. My mom was... read more

This is the biggest waste of time and money. The employees stand around and are extremely unhelpful. The animal encounters are a joke. We waited 45 minutes to see the lemurs because the employees were taking their time and in no hurry to help. Once we do get in, we're told we can only touch them with 2 fingers. You don't get hold them like their website shows. And your only given 5 minutes with them. We paid $12 per person for that joke. Then in the rest of the aquarium, none of the machine to buy food to feed the animals wo... read more

Please don't go here! 1. The animals were in very small cages that didn't look well maintained 2. Children were allowed to touch many of the animals and hand washing was not enforced 3. The place had a distinct fishy smell even before you entered the building 4. The obstacle course was disgusting - very sticky and with blocks that were falling apart 5. It was extremely expensive and it's clear that the money isn't going into maintaining the building or caring for the animals. This was a very sad experience for us and we won'... read more

The point of this review is not to tell you whether you should visit that place or not. It is meant to raise awareness about the cruelty that occurs there. Austin aquarium has wild life animals that belong in a proper zoo. Its located in a strip mall. Therefore, there is no sunlight or fresh air for these animals. There was a capybara in there that made no sense, and the animal looked half dead like he had given up waiting to die. There are also lemurs kept in cages. The animals should be outdoors and never be in close conta... read more

There are many great things to see when you walk through but don't spend money on tokens for the encounters bc you will be ripped off. Don't go there with high expectations bc the staff will make you feel like you are animal haters if you buy 120 bucks in tokens and then not be able to use them. We were told we could do a sloth encounter so we bought 50 tokens for 120 bucks. When we got there we were told we were first on the list and would be called. We waited several hours not spending our tokens or taking the time to do o... read more

I tried to look at descriptions online that spoke of crocodiles, bunnies, and great experiences. There weren't half of the animals they claimed to have online and the inside had tons of flies and a lot of koi fish in a medium size tank. The animals had no sunlight as the aquarium is in a shopping center. I can see how this would be a fun experience for very young children who have short attention spans, but it is borderline animal cruelty letting the small children get so close to the animals who are packed in so tightly. Ve... read more
