All I can say is if you get the annual pass, which was pitched to me as I made entry and purchased to allow our family to enter, make sure you note on your calendar when it automatically renews. Yes, all annual passes AUTOMATICALLY renew with no warning until the day of the renewal. AND you must cancel IN PERSON. Yep I was caught off guard when I received the email of the renewal, ON THE DAY IT POSTED to my credit card and the EXACT day of the original purchase one year later. No, hey do you want to renew email, no hey your ... read more
During my Austin visit, I came upon this aquarium that was interesting to see that visitors have the opportunity to interact with the animals (some for free while others for an add-on fee). I also saw in some exhibits there were booths where visitors can get temporary tattoos, or caricature drawing for a fee. Since I went during the weekday, these booths were closed and there were some empty exhibits (not sure if the animals were resting somewhere that cannot be seen). They also have free admission for first responder (just ... read more
They say everything is bigger in Texas - I don't think they took the Austin Aquarium into account when that statement came about. Don't get me wrong it wasn't a bad place, but you could put the whole thing in a small corner of most major city aquariums. While traveling with a two year old it was probably the perfect size to keep him busy and not get burnt out halfway through. Some nice displays of stingrays, koi, sharks etc along with various turtles & birds but again very scaled down compared to others we've visited. My big... read more
I have to say, compared to my first visit years ago, they have improved a lot. But having been to some pretty amazing aquariums, this leaves much to be desired. To young children, however, there were lots of 'oohs' and 'aahs'. I purchased a Groupon which saved a couple of dollars to the otherwise somewhat overpriced ticket. Not too impressive but a nice activity during hot summer days with young kids.
How is this even considered an aquarium? We knew driving up into a strip mall that it would be bad but didn't think it would be as horrible as it really was. We would have had a better time walking around the fish tanks in a Petco. Save your money, time, and sanity.
Love this small interactive aquarium. Every room has animals that guests can gently touch or feed. We spent a lot of time in the bird rooms on our most recent visit being mobbed by parakeets! Feeding krill to the hungry rays is always a delight. My son got a "pedicure" from the doctor fish that nibbled his feet, and one of the tortoises was out in the guest area walking around, with a balloon tied to its back so guests could easily see him coming. For an extra fee, guests can also interact with a variety of mammals, based on... read more
Whoever thinks this is a wonderful place needs to get the facts about how these animals are mistreated and abused. They don't get medical treatment they need, they're kept in horribly cramped quarters, they're forced to interact with humans even after they've bitten some from being scared. Most of these animals would never be forced to interact with adults or over-zealous children if this h*ll-hole wasn't open.
They refused to refund money for tokens. Such a rip off. Very limited species and bad customer service!
I won't be coming back after this visit. For out of town visitors, this place is not worth visiting. Do not buy tokens until you can guarantee you can use them. I came when there were field trips and was warned they might not be able to do animal encounters but that I could buy food to feed at the various exhibits. As I'm walking through the aquarium, none of the exhibits have available food to feed the fish, the concession stand where you can buy food is closed and the front desk states someone should have told you that the... read more
