Aviara is the rehab center that my father landed after two hospital stays. It seemed like a good place based on the reviews, but our experience sucked. Upon admission they took an inventory of his belongings and medical situation. He was still recovering from MRSA so they put him in a room with a quarrantine sign on the door. I visited at 5:30 pm and the night staff told me that he was fine and that I did not need to wear the protective clothing that the protocol specified. I called Aviara to see if they could accommodate my mom since she will be getting discharged from Tri City in the next few days. When I called, they said there was availability, but then when I told them my mom was at their sister facility, "La Paloma" they said they didn't think they could accommodate my mom after all. Reason being is my mom received very poor care at La Paloma, so I guess they only want people who won't complain about bad service. After doing much research, Aviara has had some bad complaints too. The facility is nicely furnished and has a pleasant feel to it. That's where the 'plusses' end however. They are short staffed on careworkers. My father's remote control for the television didn't work and it took a week to get a new one despite multiple requests to maintenance. They were just not on top of it. The television screens are way too small. The staff is ill-equipped to handle a patient who doesn't 'fit the mold', like a person with dementia. They required us to hire a 24/7 'sitter' for my dad.
