Get directionsI was admitted a month ago and I stayed at Aviara for a couple of weeks for a knee replacement. I didn't have anybody to take care of me at home and my family is out of state. I was so scared to go to a nursing facility because of what people are putting on the Internet but I decided to give Aviara a try. That was the best thing that I've done. The nursing care was great. They come immediately when I ask for help and the response time for call light is good considering I am not the only patient that they have to care of. The... read more
In comparison to other nursing homes, this has the best Physical Therapists and Occupational Therapists along with an "excellent gym." The nursing staff are also "overall," about as good as it gets. There was one incident with an aide that happened to be new in the field. I spent the first night overnight, with the friend of mine. I said to the aide something close to, I'll see you in 2 hours to turn my friend right? The aide stated, "On no! I don't have time for that! I went directly to the nursing supervisor and re... read more
My mother has been at Aviara for more than 2 years. She is in her 90's, and has dementia. She first arrived for rehab from a broken hip, and we like the facility so much we placed her permanently after her recovery. All of the staff, LVN's, RN's, physical therapists, nurses aids, physicians, management, they all try their best to provide good care. My parents physician is the head of geriatrics for a major teaching university. We asked him where to place my mother when she broke her hip, and he told us he had been inv... read more
When it became obvious that my aunt who is an amputee, was suffering from depression, health and memory problems needed full-time care I checked out Aviara. To my pleasant surprise it was sparkling clean, the grounds are beautifully kept and most importantly the residents and patients are treated with dignity and kindness. My aunt told me that she is happier than she has ever been in her life! That is because of the respect and loving care she receives from the staff. She no longer suffers from chronic health problems, depr... read more
Probably a fine place if you get in and out quickly. But my father is 90 and is stuck in there because of a slow to heal pressure wound. His hearing aids were lost. They took zero responsibility. Got replacements. One of them was "crushed by a wheel chair". Again, not their fault. Frustrated and annoyed with the place. UPDATE: They have responded favorably!!
I have to say Anna M from Redondo...I work in the facilities here in S.D. and applied to Aviara. Aviara is one of the nicer facilities for the money spent here in San Diego. The T.V. screen size would be the least of my worries & the staff will turn the channel for you if you want to watch something else. Most every nursing home facility seems under staffed but they are normally not. It just seems that way because most family members want things to be immediate. During the morning it is normally 8 residents to 1 Certified N... read more
This review should be taken into consideration after you review the state and federal sponsored websites, which rate skilled nursing facilities. Incidentally, Aviara Health Care Center received a 5 star rating on those websites, but I encourage everybody conduct their own review. After spending a week at Scripps Hospital for pneumonia and sepsis, the doctor said my Mom would need to go to a skilled nursing facility for about a week for physical therapy and also to be monitored for her progress in recovering from the infect... read more
I have a family member who was recently sent to Aviara for rehab after a major health episode and surgery. Don't be fooled by the remodeled exterior! After a short time she developed a cough from lying in her back 24/7. Typical of poor care! Turns out, the attending physician never met with her...Ever in the first 3 weeks. Never laid eyes on the patient! We called him out on it, along with numerous other issues. He was initially arrogant and rude, but ended up seeing the patient that same day. What a mess. Thankfully, allied... read more
First impression is NOT 100% positive. Lacking communication & offering suggestions. Some staff is good & others, not so much. They forgot about my mom on the commode & take too long when her call button is pressed. BTW, she's dying of cancer. Where's the compassion? #Slackers
