Look, I like Black Bear Diner, I actually do. I had been to the one in Paradise and the one in Weed which I believe is the original one. Both are good and reasonably priced. But when this one opened in Chico I was shocked at the prices. BBD has good diner food, it's not high end. The prices they are charging at this location is a joke and are more expensive than a large city would charge. I just don't know why they did that. Oh lord, where to start. First, I don't really like writing reviews- I'd rather support a restaurant through word of mouth. However, I'm writing this review to caution potential diners- times are tough financially, and I wouldn't want someone to walk away feeling like I did. Service to seat you was very slow .They acted like they did not want you there. After a long time to get a table they finally took me to a table. After sitting at the table for a long time someone said sorry for the long wait ( they were not busy at all) they said they would be with me shortly. After another period of time I gave up and left. never order anything because nobody ever showed up to take the order.

The corned beef was dry. Hash browns were undercooked. Overpriced dinner food. Slow to get the food out.

We went to Black Bear in Chico for the first time this evening and were immediately shocked by the ridiculously inflated prices. I heard a rumor that the Chico location jacked up the prices, and unfortunately, the rumor turned out to be true. While in the restaurant, I compared prices online with the original Mt Shasta Black Bear location, and the Chico prices were drastically higher. Bring a new restaurant in town we decided to give it a try on a Thursday at 11am. Restaurant wasn't even 1/3 full as there were empty tables everywhere so we thought we scored. We were sat promptly and they took our drink order but that's where things went downhill. There were 3 of us and it took the waitress 20 minutes to take our lunch order. I have always loved BBD but the one here in chico is a joke. Went in for desert with three others last night. Blackberry cobbler and pumpkin cheesecake were ordered. Took FOREVER to get service ( the place was not busy). Cheesecake was frozen solid and inedible. Asked the waitress if they had a thawed piece and she was so stoned out of her mind that she couldn't hold any type of conversation. I asked for the manager and they never came out. So we have been here for over an hour and still no food. My husband asked our waiter where it was an she said "I entered it late." Needless to say we are still waiting. Update: 30 min later we got our food and was very disappointed. Husbands burger was very undercooked, my fish was cold in the middle, and the grilled cheese was literally just toast and cheese in the middle not melted.
