In 1995 founders Bruce Dean and Bob & Laurie Manley opened the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, CA. Lousy service. Waitress ignored us n walked straight to this Elderly white man n ask him what he wanted to drink n she went to get his coffee n then asked him if he was ready to order n he did. Here we are sitting n waiting for service before this man n she totally just stood by her spot n never came over to see if we wanted anything to drink, so we got up n walked out. Not even welcome or Thank you n Goodbye.. I would of given them half a star or none at all. I have heard about the service n yup seen it now. Dang for 1 egg ... read more

Basic breakfast food. Great service but overpriced for the food served. Interesting playlist
The ambiance was warm and welcoming. Our server was great and really on top of everything we asked. I got a half sandwich and soup of the day, the soup was good but I had asked for no mayo on my sandwich. The first time they brought my food out it had mayo on it so I sent it back. The second time they brought it out it had the same lettuce tomato and ham and it was creased with mayo from the first sandwich but then they told me it was a brand new sandwich and it wasn't. So first off I'm on a tight budget. But today I decided to treat myself, I was craving a good cheese Burger. So I saw Black Bear Diner off Seaward in Ventura. Disappointed 1) the patty was flavorless and on the thin side tasted like it had been frozen a bit to long no flavor 2) I asked for a cheese burger no pickles. It has pickles & no cheese 3) waitress never came back or I would have told her and I needed more water to wash down that dry meat 4) I got lots of fries, good size, meaty, but on the soggy side.
