In 1995 founders Bruce Dean and Bob & Laurie Manley opened the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, CA. BBD's new slogan is "Twice the price and twice the waiting time for your meal!" Not what the chain used to be. I didn't believe the prices when I saw them. Took so long to get food my wife had to get hers to go. Plusses: friendly waitress, atmospheric surroundings, decent food. But my pleasant memories of Black Bear Diner are a part of the distant past.

Had a great dinner last night at Black bear with a friend. Food and atmosphere were nice but what really stood out was our waitress Gloria. She was very kind and attentive, gave us some good food recommendations. Thank you black bear and thank you Gloria!

The staff is very helpful and courteous. Scott was particular anxious to take care of us. Overall the experience is very enjoyable each time. The portions are tasty, generous, and they accommodate changes to our order.

Very disappointed with the food quality. My wife got the all you can eat fish --- three different servings (only one piece per serving) , and all looked very unappetizing. Batter did not cover the fish, and although the taste was okay, my wife said it used to be much more flavorful. (The fish used to look so good that I was tempted to try it even though I haven't eaten fish for many years ). And I ordered the cheeseburger basket (their new $11 deal).
