In 1995 founders Bruce Dean and Bob & Laurie Manley opened the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, CA. Their mission was simple: create a fun and friendly atmosphere where the local community could enjoy huge portions of home-style cooking at a reasonable price. Pleasantly surprised by this place. We were out of town and saw this off the freeway and decided to hit it. Big menu and good size portions. Friendly people too.

Such a great variety of food options. Friendly servers. Fresh salads. Comfy ambiance. Great family restaurant. They have private rooms for larger groups, too.

We had Maddie as a server and she was the greatest. Super attentive and an all around character. She anticipated our needs and was very knowledgeable about places to visit around the area. I would go back to Black Bear in Ventura just to hang out with Maddie again. She suggested the western burger and it was worth it. Ask for Maddie if you go!
