In 1995 founders Bruce Dean and Bob & Laurie Manley opened the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, CA. My wife tried out this place and the food was excellent. We were disappointed in the service snd the music was loud enough it was hard to hold a conversation. We had not planned on returning, but the food brought us back. This time we met Manny and he provided such friendly and professional service, we had a far better experience and the music was at a decent level. We plan on returning in the future only because Manny changed our mind about the place.

BBD's new slogan is "Twice the price and twice the waiting time for your meal!" Not what the chain used to be. I didn't believe the prices when I saw them. Took so long to get food my wife had to get hers to go. Plusses: friendly waitress, atmospheric surroundings, decent food. But my pleasant memories of Black Bear Diner are a part of the distant past.
