I'm amazed at the $529 price tag
Wow! I'm amazed at the $529 price tag. I purchased this printer in 2013 for $129. I don't know if that means that this turns out to be the best printer Brother makes or that salaries are simply not advancing as fast as inflation. But that's another conversation.
So we probably buy a new cartridge ever year. Typically we buy the Brother brand, but buy them from Best Buy and not one of the Depots, I think last time I paid about $38. But this time, I found a place called InkTechnologies that recycles (great for the environment) and more affordable, $14each, great reviews and satisfaction guaranteed.
I use the printer for school and business. It prints SUPER FAST. Crisp quality. I've had maybe one or two paper jams in 5 years. Copier is excellent, scanner works with my Photoshop on a Mac desktop and laptop, which I've used to scan pencil and ink work. We used the fax for about a year until we determined we were only keeping our landline for the fax machine. But when we used it, it worked as it should.
This is a workhorse. The company must have realized it was one of the best printers they make and unfortunately jacked up the price accordingly. At $500 bucks that comes out to about $100/year for reliable, in-home copying, printing, scanning and faxing. I hope that helps you justify the expense. Just glad I did my research and found a machine built to last when the price was right. OH, just for the record, if you're looking for one of the BEST color printers, the Canon Pixma Pro 100 is exceptional as is the customer support that you get at no extra charge!!
